On a rocky hill overlooking the 12 Fires vineyard, a Live Oak greets the sun. This beautiful start belies this sun’s brooding malevolence. It will soon pound the face of the vineyard with intense heat, radiating blindingly off its limestone face. It has been under thousands of such suns that this Live Oak has formed its distinctive, gnarled posture, unlike the sprawling, densely foliated, easy spread of its counterparts at home in the Live Oak’s other native lands across Texas.
